The Wilderness Inn is snuggled within the White Mountain National Forest, five miles south of Franconia Notch State Park, offering lodging with character in the quaint New England town of North Woodstock, New Hampshire. Built in 1912 as a lumbermill owner's home, the inn still has a country house atmosphere that welcomes guests to this "neck of the woods". Ideally located, we are two and a half hours north of Boston and three hours south of Montreal.
All seven bedrooms and suites, each with a private bath, as well as the "honeymoon" cottage overlooking Lost River, are smoke free, individually decorated, and feature photographs and articles of a foreign country. Bathroom amenities include liquid soap, shampoo, and hairdryer. Each room has individually controlled heat, cable TV, and air-conditioning. The Inn's living room has a large fireplace, the perfect place to savor a cup of hot chocolate after a day of skiing. The bright front porch is a welcoming spot to enjoy a cold glass of lemonade in the summer. Free wireless internet service (Wi-Fi) is available throughout the Inn.
Rates are based on double occupancy and include a delicious and generous breakfast from an extensive menu, as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and lemonade or cider (in season) in the afternoon. Additional person in room is $15 extra. A 50% or one night minimum advance deposit by Visa, Master Card, Discover or personal check is required at the time of making a reservation. A two week cancellation notice is required for deposit refund, less a $10 cancelation fee. Rates do not include 9% Rooms and Meals tax, nor gratuity, and are subject to change. Check in is from 2 to 10 PM; if you need to check in after 10 PM, please call us to make arrangements. Check-out is by 11 AM. Children are welcome. No pets or smoking please.

Selected by Yankee magazine's Editors Choice, Best of New England, "Best Reason To Rise And Shine": "A lumber baron built this 1912 Arts&Crafts home within earshot of the Lost River. Now each guest room evokes a stop on a world tour taken by it's current owners, the Yarnells, when their children were young. Michael's famous breakfasts are open to the public. Our favorite: apple crepes with sour cream and chopped walnuts. Rates: from $95, including full breakfast. 57 Main St. (Route 3), 888-777-7813, 603-745-3890; theWildernessinn.com"
In the New York Times review of Cannon and Loon Mountains, Anita Peltonen wrote: "We stayed at the Wilderness Inn in North Woodstock, eight miles from Cannon and three from Loon. A 1912 green-shingled house built by a lumber baron, the Inn is within walking distance of village restaurants. Tea and mulled cider (are served) by the fireplace... breakfasts (pancakes, crepes, French toast, omelets) are large and homemade." From nearby Cannon Mountain, "views over Echo Lake, Franconia Notch, and the northern reaches of the White Mountain National Forest are the most beautifully rugged I've seen in the Northeast...A skiing-at-the-top-of-the-world feeling comes in here too."
